SOLAR SYSTEMS MAINTENANCE

Solar Panel Maintenance

Solar panels generally require very little maintenance since there are no moving parts. A few times a year, the panels should be inspected for any dirt or debris that may collect on them.
Always make sure you are safety conscious when inspecting panels and don’t take any needless risks! If your panels are too high up on the roof to see very well from the ground, use caution with ladders.

For a general cleaning, simply use a standard garden hose to wash the face of the panels during either the early morning or in the evening. Avoid spraying cold water onto hot panels or you could risk cracking them!.

The Solar Company offers solar panel cleaning services – please contact us to schedule an appointment with one of our professional cleaners. This is a better choice for panels that are too high to reach well with a garden hose or if you want a more thorough cleaning.
Standard solar panel maintenance is the best way to make sure they are always producing efficiently.

Cleaning Your Solar Panels

Many homeowners are concerned about weather conditions damaging their panels or roof. Solar systems are installed in all types of climates. Whether you live somewhere with severe winters, a heavy rain season, coastal weather systems, or heat waves – your solar system can and will handle it all.

Keeping your panels clear of debris or snow is crucial to ensure your panels are performing at maximum capacity. There are ways to assure your panels are putting out maximum energy production.

How to clean debris from trees, birds, and general dust build up you can use:
  • A leaf blower
  • Simple quick rinse with a hose
  • Or even a light rain can wash away panel build up (rain usually won’t clean off flat panels)
How to removing a heavy layer of snow:
  • Throw a soft football to shake the snow lose (this could end up in a lost football
  • Use a leaf blower
  • Use a long pole with a squeegee at the end
  • Spray your panels with lukewarm water
  • If it is a light layer of snow, it will likely slide off, cleaning your panels in the process (this isn’t applicable for flat panels)
When cleaning your panels NEVER:
  • Spray hot water on cold panel
  • Use Rain
  • Use car wash
  • Rock salt
